Leading global legal survey Global Counsel 3000 2003-04 has recognised Mallesons Stephen Jaques as one of the Top 50 law firms globally. Additionally, the firm has been ranked as “Australia’s best”.

The Global 50 review is compiled as part of Global Counsel’s survey of law firms worldwide and identifies the 50 law firms that: “received the greatest depth of recommendation across the research”.

Mallesons also received the highest number of top tier rankings (12) in the Australia chapter, while the firm’s Asia practice entrenched its position in the region with a ranking overall of 13th out of the 56 firms surveyed in Hong Kong.

The criteria for a ranking in the Global 50 is based on:

• Comments from general counsel in the world’s leading 5,000 companies on law firms they use. Based on this research and interviews with leading private practitioners, GC 3000 ranks firms in all major practice areas within jurisdictions (including individual US states) as “leading”, “highly recommended” or “recommended”. The PLCGlobal50 firms are those firms that score the most points when the results of the research are weighted according to the level of recommendation and then aggregated.

• The firms scoring rankings on at least two continents.

• The firms operating as a unified partnership.

GC 3000 Editor, Ms Helen Bryson said: “Mallesons has long since achieved the goal of becoming Australia’s leading law firm.”

In commenting on the firm’s organic growth, Ms Bryson said: “This stability has undoubtedly played a contributory role in Mallesons’ success and in making it the first firm of choice for many of Australia’s top corporates.”

Reflecting on the firm’s global and local ranking, Mallesons Chief Executive Partner, Tony D’Aloisio acknowledges the role of the firm’s clients in these achievements.

“It is pleasing that our clients place a high level of confidence in the firm locally and internationally. We acknowledge our clients’ role and the value of the relationships we have cultivated over many years. We remain committed to delivering sustained, top quality legal services meeting the growing regional needs of our clients.”
