LAWFUEL – Legal Newswire – A legal fight is promised by opponents of the Traveston Crossing Dam near Gympie, who say they are prepared to launch a court challenge against the Federal Government if the project is approved.
The Greens senate candidate for Queensland Larissa Waters says the Commonwealth should prepare for legal action if it allows the dam to be built.
The Queensland State Government project requires federal approval because of its potential impact on matters of national environmental significance.
Kevin Ingersole from the Save the Mary River Coordinating Group says they will consider taking the matter to court if the Commonwealth ignores the science.
“As an organisation we have already taken legal advice on what our options are going forward if certain events transpire,” he said.
“If we’re not satisfied that a decision has been made in accordance with the science and the facts and data we most certainly would.”
