NEW YORK– LAWFUEL –International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, in alliance with Equal Justice Works, has named its 2008 Fellows, a list that includes a New York City-based fellow. A total of nine individuals across the country will receive funding through the Greenberg Traurig Fellowship Foundation for the provision of pro bono legal services to community programs. These public interest law fellowships begin in September and run for two years.
The Greenberg Traurig Fellowship Foundation was established 11 years ago. Since then, Greenberg Traurig has sponsored, in whole or in part, more than 85 fellows who have worked on innovative public interest projects in many of the communities in which we practice. The Greenberg Traurig Fellowships offer salary and loan repayment assistance, a national training and leadership development program, and other forms of support.
Anya Emerson, the fellow based in New York, is a graduate of Columbia University School of Law. She will be working with the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), providing direct appellate representation and community legal training for trial and appellate attorneys to ensure that state trial court judges apply the full range of legal remedies available to domestic violence victims.
“We are pleased to recognize Anya’s dedication and hard work, and to be able to offer her this opportunity,” said Stephen L. Saxl, a shareholder in the firm’s New York office and a board member of GT’s Fellowship Foundation. “Anya will be working with victims of domestic violence to make certain they understand and have access to the legal remedies available. We look forward to partnering with her in developing training programs and handling appeals. Our support of the Greenberg Traurig Fellowship Foundation is one example of our overall commitment to pro bono and our local communities.”
