Linklaters has acted for Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity as a member of the Spirit private equity consortium on its £2.51 billion acquisition of Scottish & Newcastle Retail business, comprising of 1,400 pubs, restaurants and lodges.
The other consortium members included Texas Pacific Group, Blackstone, CVC and other current Spirit shareholders.
The transaction became public on 6 October 2003 and is, subject to approval by S&N shareholders, expected to be completed during November 2003. The Linklaters team in London was led by partner, Jeremy Parr and managing associate, Olivia McKendrick.
