LOS ANGELES, September 8 2004 LAWFUEL – Best for attorney news, law firms, law news, legal news Piper Rudnick LLP partner Jane Barrett has been appointed to the new committee of the American Bar Association’s Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity.

She was appointed to the committee by Robert Grey, Jr., the new president of the ABA.
“We are pleased that the ABA has recognized Jane’s qualities as an attorney and her commitment to the cause of greater diversity in the legal profession,” said Jeffrey Rosenfeld, managing partner of Piper Rudnick in Los Angeles. “Her diligent efforts are one aspect of the firm’s commitment to this noble work.”

Piper Rudnick is in the midst of a five-year initiative to improve diversity and advance the position of women and minorities within the firm. Former Northwestern University Law School Dean of Students Theresa Cropper was recently appointed the firm’s new Director of Diversity.

Ms. Barrett, a member of the Litigation practice group, is an experienced litigator in a number of fields, most notably intellectual property, labor and employment, and general business litigation. She has represented the country’s largest software developer in intellectual property, unfair competition, and commercial disputes and for many years has represented a leading airline in a broad range of intellectual property and labor matters.

As a national counsel for a major client in trademark litigation, Ms. Barrett has been admitted and argued in numerous federal district courts throughout the United States.
Among her civic and charitable activities, she also serves on the Loyola High School Board, Ninth Circuit Attorneys Conference, and the American Bar Endowment Board, and she is a past member of the ABA’s Board of Governors.
The ABA Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity was created in 2001 to promote racial and ethnic diversity as a priority issue for the ABA.
