Mayer Brown launches consumer financial services blog

Mayer Brown announced today that its Consumer Financial Services group, a vital component of the firm’s global Financial Services Regulatory & Enforcement practice, has launched a blog, “Consumer Financial Services Review.” The blog is designed to serve as a resource for the consumer financial services industry and provide timely updates on important news and developments related to consumer financial products and services, including legislative enactments, regulatory promulgations, enforcement actions and court decisions.

“The consumer financial services industry is rapidly changing and the launch of this blog will provide Mayer Brown’s Consumer Financial Services group with a broader platform to facilitate a more public and constant discussion of important regulatory and enforcement developments impacting industry participants’ business operations,” said Steve Kaplan, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s Financial Services Regulatory & Enforcement practice and a member of the Consumer Financial Services group.

Mr. Kaplan and partners Melanie Brody, David Beam, Eric Edwardson, Kris Kully, Stephanie Robinson and Phillip Schulman will serve as editors of the blog. Other contributors include partners Costas “Gus” Avrakotos, Holly Spencer Bunting, Krista Cooley, Tom Delaney, Jonathan Jaffe, Ori Lev, Laurence Platt, Lauren Bergen Pryor, Jeffrey Taft and David Tallman, along with associates in the Consumer Financial Services group and other members of the firm.

Notably, a number of the blog’s contributors have served in federal agencies that supervise consumer financial service providers, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Justice and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Mr. Platt added, “Our group’s decades-long presence in Washington DC and former government experience offers our readers a unique insider’s perspective on policy actions and changes. We’ve all seen a steady increase of consumer financial services-related enforcement activity at the federal and state level, especially with the creation of the CFPB, and Consumer Financial Services Review will serve as a timely resource for businesses looking to mitigate risks and ensure compliance. The expanded resources of Mayer Brown in areas such as consumer arbitration, financial services litigation, asset securitization and structured finance will enrich the blog’s content.”

Mayer Brown’s Consumer Financial Services group is an industry-leading team with a well-established and highly respected record of providing high-caliber regulatory counseling, enforcement defense and transactional advice to a broad range of consumer financial service providers, including mortgage and auto lenders, consumer finance companies, payment companies, credit card issuers and investment banks. Lawyers in the group follow closely the myriad developments in the consumer financial services industry, advising on these and other issues, including company formation and licensing, loan origination and servicing, secondary market investment and securitization, and examination and enforcement.
