MIAMI, June 8, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – The international law firm of Steel Hector & Davis LLP, and four of its practice groups, have been selected by Chambers and Partners USA as leading U.S. attorneys and firm. The selection, published in Chambers USA, America’s Leading Business Lawyers Directory, is based solely on a research team’s findings and recommendations. Researchers spend a year conducting more than 7,000 in-depth interviews of clients and lawyers to obtain a consistent market view of which firms and attorneys are considered leaders in their field.
Alvin B. Davis, the firm’s managing partner, along with partners Thomas McGuigan, Patricia Lowry, and Richard Winston, were ranked among the top attorneys in the state. Davis and Winston work in the firm’s Miami office; McGuigan and Lowry, in the West Palm Beach office.
Davis, managing partner for the firm, “received admiration
for his ample experience in complex litigation, further bolstered by the fact that he is, by and large, well regarded by judges,” according to Chambers USA. Davis counsels in complex multidistrict litigation at trial and appellate levels involving securities laws, products liability, intellectual property and utility rate making.
McGuigan, chairman of the firm’s Commercial Division and a partner in the Corporate Finance and Securities Group was commended as a “highly respected operator” who “is valued for telling clients “exactly like it is,” says Chambers. McGuigan handles all aspects of corporate, securities, and financial matters for public and privately held organizations in various stages of development.
Lowry, who chairs the Labor & Employment Group, was “recommended to researchers for her employment litigation practice,” says Chambers. Lowry has extensive experience in both product liability and employment litigation, including defense of discrimination claims, whistleblower claims, wage and hour claims, enforcement of employment agreements, and employment counseling.
Winston, partner of the Miami office’s Tax Group, was
extolled as a “Brilliant man and brilliant tax strategist. Richard Winston is a new entry to Chambers’ tables following an abundance of highly positive client feedback,” says Chambers. Winston focuses on structuring and analyzing domestic and cross-border transactions for US and foreign multinationals. Winston has experience planning for acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, joint ventures, and finance company arrangements.
The firm continued its tradition of excellence in
litigation, corporate matters, and tax continuing to carry impressive rankings for each individual group. In addition, the firm made its debut in the Chambers USA employment rankings following the highly positive feedback from clients. Steel Hector & Davis received high praise from clients who referred to the firm as the “Rolls-Royce of law firms, the quality runs right through the team.” When it comes to corporate, securities and tax matters, Chambers notes that the firms “workload is highlighted by equity and debt financing in private placements totaling more than $500 million.”
