Milwaukee—Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Marc Marotta is joining the firm after serving as Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Administration for nearly three years. Marotta, who was tapped by Gov. Jim Doyle in January 2003 to advise on fiscal, economic and other policy matters including the preparation and implementation of the state budget, is a member of the Business Law Department and the Transactional & Securities Practice Group.
“It was easy to see why Gov. Doyle tapped Marc as his top advisor, as Marc is a highly regarded corporate lawyer with a stellar reputation,” said Ralf Boer, Foley’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We’re delighted to have Marc back with the added experience of being a central figure in state government, as this will further enhance the services we offer our clients both in Wisconsin and nationwide.”
Marotta joined Foley as an associate in 1987 and spent his career with the firm before resigning to become a part of the Doyle administration in 2003. As a partner he will again represent both public and private companies in mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings and recapitalizations, and public and private equity and debt financings. He has represented a wide variety of manufacturers, utilities, biotechnology and service companies, as well as both national and regional underwriters.
Marotta is a 1987 graduate of Harvard Law School and a 1984 graduate of Marquette University, where he studied economics, political science and English. He was a three-time academic All-American basketball player and one of four major college recipients of an NCAA post-graduate scholarship.
