SAN JOSE – United States Attorney Scott N. Schools announced that Randy Lee Snyder, 56, was sentenced by Judge James Ware to 10 years in prison today in federal court in San Jose for possession of child pornography. The charges were the result of an investigation by the Monterey Police Department and the FBI.
On October 14, 2006, employees of a Senior Center in Monterey, California, reported that a man was seen accessing child pornography on one of the center’s public computers. Monterey police officers responded and learned that employees of the senior center had identified Snyder as a registered sex offender using the California Megan’s Law website. Investigation later determined that Snyder had used several e-mail accounts to access the Internet at the senior center and view child pornography, as well as to exchange such images with others.
Snyder had suffered a prior conviction in state court for attempted lewd conduct with a 14 year old, for which he received 10 months imprisonment; Snyder was on probation for the state conviction when he committed the new federal offense. Snyder had been detained without bail pending his sentencing.
