Two profile trial attorneys, including the Trump lawyer who was involved in working for Trump during the Mueller investigation, have officially launched Brithem LLP, marking a significant entry into New York’s competitive boutique law firm market.

Michael Bowe and Lauren Tabaksblat, former co-chairs of litigation at Brown Rudnick LLP, announced the launch of their specialized litigation boutique.

Strategic Launch

Brithem LLP launches with impressive credentials and a robust foundation, beginning operations with 13 legal professionals including nine attorneys, two investigators, and two support staff.

The team includes notable additions such as a former Supreme Court clerk joining as of counsel and two Quinn Emanuel alumni joining as partners. Based at 565 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, the firm expects aggressive growth, anticipating expansion to at least 20 attorneys by the first quarter of 2026 driven by a strong pipeline of current and new cases.

Distinguished Founders

The founding partners bring exceptional pedigree to their new venture, with both attorneys recognized as “Trailblazer of the Year” by the National Law Journal.

Tabaksblat, recognized by Chambers for her commanding courtroom presence, emphasized the firm’s core mission: “Brithem is dedicated to the craft of trial lawyering and leveraging that craft to effect change”.

Bowe, notably served as part of President Trump’s legal team during the Mueller investigation, bringing high-profile experience to the boutique’s litigation capabilities.

Market Positioning

The firm’s name pays homage to distinguished legal practitioners of Old Ireland known as Brithems, who were relied upon by individuals across all social standings. The reference reflects the firm’s focus on impactful litigation across diverse client needs.

Bloomberg Law reports the new firm will focus on fighting child abuse, human trafficking, and discrimination in court, positioning Brithem as an impact-litigation focused boutique.

The launch provides another example of senior BigLaw partners departing to create specialized practices, joining the growing trend of boutique formations targeting high-stakes commercial litigation.

The development of top boutique law firms is a continuing trend, providing siginificant advantages for lawyers seeking a ‘non-BigLaw’ work environment and specialist legal work – a trend that is set to continue with the growth of specialist law activities and an increasingly competitive legal environment.
