The law firm co-founded by former Du Val Property Group lawyer Owen Culliney has changed its name from iCLAW to Foley Douglas.

The firm had branded itself initially as bold and unconventional, with a tagline that promised clients “a firm with claws.” The firm’s new focus however is upon “kiwi values” .

Culliney’s resignation saw his shares transferred to Aasha Foley and Sam Douglas. As we reported earlier, the firm said his shares in the company were ‘vacated’, a term that fails to indicate whether they were sold, transferred for no consideration or otherwise.

Aasha Foley and Sam Douglas co-founded the practice with Culliney in 2017, saying the rebrand marks a fresh chapter following what has been a turbulent time.

“Yes, we’ve changed our name — but our passion for the law and helping people hasn’t changed a bit,” says Foley, who serves as managing director.

The firm says the name change reflects who they are today and the direction they’re heading — a team with deep roots in the Waikato region and a strong commitment to people, both inside and outside the office.

“A name carries meaning,” Foley says. “It’s more than just the work we do — it’s about our values, our relationships, and the promises we make to our clients and our team.”

Douglas adds that while they’re general legal practitioners, the firm offers specialist expertise across a range of areas.

“We’re built on good Kiwi values. That’s what underpins everything we do.”

The firm, now operating as Foley Douglas, has a team of 25 and offers services in areas like commercial contracts, property, asset protection, IP commercialisation, and conveyancing. Their client base spans families, first-home buyers, business owners, and entrepreneurs — both local and beyond.

“We’ve built a team of incredible professionals whose work speaks for itself,” Foley says. “Our new name is a reflection of that shared commitment — and our legacy.”
