NEW YORK -LAWFUEL – Legal News Network – October 16, 2006 — The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP today announced that Adrian M. Harris has joined the Firm as a partner in the bankruptcy and financial restructuring group. He will be resident in the London office of Chadbourne & Parke, a multinational partnership. Prior to joining Chadbourne, Mr. Harris was head of European insolvency & restructuring at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
Mr. Harris comes to Chadbourne with 16 years of insolvency and restructuring experience in Europe. He was also Managing Partner of Orrick’s London office during 2004 and 2005.
Mr. Harris will be joined by two other lawyers from Orrick who together form a highly regarded distressed debt trading team acting for investment banks and hedge funds in complex cross-border distressed bank debt trading across Europe.
“Adrian will be a partner in the insolvency practice in London, a capability we have not had before,” said Howard Seife, head of Chadbourne’s international bankruptcy and financial restructuring group. “Restructuring work is increasingly cross-border in nature. More of our cases are international in scope, and Adrian and his team will give a significant boost to the group’s international reach.”
Chadbourne’s bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers have represented clients in Chapter 11 cases and corporate restructurings in the United States and abroad, working for banks, investment banks, insurance companies, bondholders and funds. They have had leading roles in the Enron, Refco, and Mirant Chapter 11 cases, and represented creditors’ committees in the Spiegel, Inc./Eddie Bauer Inc. and Parmalat USA Corp. cases. Chadbourne is a leader in the use of cross-border ancillary proceedings, including its current representation in a Chapter 15 of the receiver in the Russian bankruptcy of Yukos Oil.
Mr. Harris has worked extensively with hedge funds and investment banks in the area of distressed debt. He has been focusing his practice increasingly on emerging markets which he sees as the next major area of development for financial restructuring work.
“Having Adrian in London is strategically important for Chadbourne’s bankruptcy and financial restructuring group,” said Claude Serfilippi, Managing Partner of Chadbourne’s London Office. “He will be perfectly placed to work with our integrated insolvency practices in our Warsaw and Moscow offices and in the United States.”
Mr. Harris speaks frequently at industry and professional conferences, and writes extensively on restructuring and insolvency. He is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, the Insolvency Lawyers Association, Insol International, Insol Europe and the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3).
Mr. Harris received his B.A. with honors from De Montfort University, and his post graduate Diploma in Law from the College of Law, Guildford. He was recognized by Legal 500 in 2005 and 2006.
The two attorneys joining Chadbourne with Mr. Harris are:
