New York, NY – January 8, 2006 – The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP announced today that Laura Hegedus has been named counsel in the tax practice group, resident in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Prior to joining Chadbourne, she was a tax lawyer in the New York and London offices of Jones Day.
Ms. Hegedus has more than a dozen years of diverse experience in public and private securities offerings, hybrid securities, derivatives and investment units, large cross-border corporate mergers and acquisitions, and international tax planning for U.S. multinational corporations. Her expertise includes advising issuers, underwriters, investment managers and lenders in a wide range of capital markets activities.

Ms. Hegedus brings skills that are more common in New York and London to the Washington market. She will work mainly with the project finance group at Chadbourne. The group works with developers, international banks, multilateral lending agencies and institutional equity investors on large infrastructure projects — power plants, oil and gas pipelines, toll roads, ports, LNG terminals, ethanol and biodiesel plants and other projects. The group has worked on such deals in more than 60 countries. Chadbourne has one of the largest project finance practices of any law firm in the world. Approximately 60 lawyers work in the group full-time.
Ms. Hegedus has coordinated tax planning with non-U.S. counsel to achieve structures that were efficient in multiple jurisdictions. Ms. Hegedus has managed tax aspects of domestic and offshore public and private securities offerings, negotiated terms of sizable credit facilities on behalf of U.S. and non-U.S. borrowers, mezzanine and senior lenders and agents, including security enhancements and syndication conditions, and has established cross-border tax compliance policies for administrative agents.
She earned an LL.M. in taxation from the New York University School of Law, a J.D, cum laude, from Tulane Law School where she was senior managing editor of the Tulane Law Review, and an A.B., with honors, from Occidental College.
