BALTIMORE, MD September 15, 2008 (LAWFUEL) – Sanford “Sandy” V. Teplitzky, principal in the Baltimore law firm of Ober|Kaler and chair of the firm’s Health Law Group, is the 2008 recipient of the American Health Lawyers Association’s prestigious David J. Greenburg Service Award.
Presented annually, the award is given to those lawyers who have made significant contributions to the AHLA over the course of their careers. Only eighteen attorneys have been selected for the award to date. Mr. Teplitzky becomes the third Ober|Kaler attorney to receive this lifetime achievement award, joining past honorees Leonard C. Homer and Thomas K. Hyatt.
Mr. Teplitzky has been a member of AHLA (and its predecessor organization, National Health Lawyers Association) for more than thirty years. He served on the Board of Directors from 1986 to1995 and as President from 1993 to 1994. He was named a Founding Fellow in 2005 and is currently the Chair of the AHLA Fellows Program. Mr. Teplitzky is a frequent writer and lecturer on a variety of health care fraud and abuse issues. His reputation as a health law attorney has been consistently recognized in national attorney rankings, including Nightingale’s Healthcare News (Outstanding Fraud & Compliance Lawyers, 2004), The Best Lawyers in America (since 1991); Lawdragon (500 Leading Lawyers in America, 2005); Expert Guides to the Leading US Lawyers — Best of the Best USA 2007; Chambers USA, America’s Leading Business Lawyers (2007); Maryland Super Lawyers (2007, 2008); and The BTI Client Service All-Star Team for Law Firms 2006.
A graduate of Tulane University School of Law (J.D., with honors, 1975) and Washington University (A.B., 1972), Mr. Teplitzky served as Associate Editor of the Tulane Law Review.
Mr. Teplitzky’s community contributions include serving 10 years on the Baltimore County Schools Board of Education. He is a resident of Pikesville, Maryland.
