OKLAHOMA CITY–LAWFUEL – Law Newswire – Oklahoma City University School of Law honors its distinguished alumni April 21 at its Legal Affair dinner and gala at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel. Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships.
The Legal Affair will honor OCU School of Law Professor Alvin C. Harrell, a 1972 OCU School of Law graduate, with the Justice Marian P. Opala Award for Lifetime Achievement in Law. He is president of Home Savings and Loan Association of Oklahoma City.
Nona M. Lee will receive the Alumni Association Award for Community Service. She is vice president and general counsel for the Arizona Diamondbacks. She is the founder and president of the non-profit Phoenix Women’s Sports Association. She also serves as vice president and trustee of the Women’s Sports Foundation, founded by tennis legend Billie Jean King.
Bob Burke, a workers’ compensation lawyer, historian and author, will be named Distinguished Law Alumnus. Burke, a 1979 graduate of OCU School of Law, is an adjunct professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Law and has written more than 40 books about Oklahoma, its people and its heritage.
Abdul R. Zindani, a 2000 graduate of OCU School of Law, will receive the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. He is senior management of Patent Portfolio Development at Research in Motion Inc., a mobile communications design and marketing company whose products include the BlackBerry wireless platform and devices.
Phillips McFall McCaffrey McVay & Murrah PC, in Oklahoma City, will receive the Law Firm Mark of Distinction Award. It is the third largest law firm in Oklahoma. Its 59 attorneys provide business and litigation services to a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 corporations, real estate developers, financial institutions and hospitals.
