Philadelphia – November 5, 2014 – Joan C. Arnold, a partner with Pepper Hamilton LLP and chair of the firm’s Tax Practice Group, has been elected a Vice-Chair (CLE) of the Section of Taxation of the American Bar Association. Ms. Arnold was elected for a one-year term at the ABA Annual Meeting held in Boston in August.
The American Bar Association Section of Taxation is the largest professional association of tax lawyers, with approximately 21,000 members nationwide. Its goals include helping taxpayers better understand their rights and obligations under the tax laws and working to achieve a simplified tax system that is equitable and efficient. With nearly 400,000 members, the American Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
Ms. Arnold focuses her practice on federal and international income tax. She has more than 30 years of significant experience in domestic and cross border M&A, and corporate international tax counseling, including substantial tax experience in the private equity arena. A leader in a number of other bar and trade organizations, Ms. Arnold is vice chair of the American College of Tax Counsel, vice president and a member of the executive committee of the U.S. Branch of the International Fiscal Association, president of the Philadelphia Tax Conference, and a member of the executive committee of the George Washington/IRS Annual International Tax Institute. Ms. Arnold holds a B.A. from Wagner College, a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law, and an LL.M. (taxation) from New York University School of Law.
