Philadelphia, PA – April 18, 2007 – LAWFUEL – The Law Firm Network – Pepper Hamilton LLP announced that Marshall J. Walthew, an experienced commercial litigator with particular experience in the defense of insurance bad faith actions and complex coverage disputes, has joined Pepper’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group as a partner in the Philadelphia office.

“Marshall’s considerable trial skills and experience serving the insurance industry are excellent complements to our commercial litigation practice,” said Robert E. Heideck, Pepper’s executive partner. “His background in litigating fraud and other complex commercial cases will be an invaluable asset, and we’re pleased he has chosen to join Pepper.”

Mr. Walthew joins Pepper from Dechert LLP in Philadelphia, where he was a partner in that firm’s trial group and where he had practiced since 1989. He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, including the high-end defense of insurers in bad faith and extra-contractual policy damages claims. He has represented insurance companies in cases arising out of casualty, life, disability, and directors and officers liability policies. He also has substantial experience handling bankruptcy, real estate, fraud and corporate litigation.

Mr. Walthew is a graduate of Haverford College (B.A. 1977) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D. 1988). After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Dolores K. Sloviter of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Walthew is a member of the board of directors of the Haverford College Arboretum Association.
