Pillsbury Winthrop LLP reports that the firm has committed to a three-year fundraising campaign designed to benefit Aim High, a San Francisco-based agency that operates summer school programs for disadvantaged youth at seven locations in Oakland and San Francisco.

“We learned about this deserving program from one of our clients. The fact that more than 95% of Aim High graduates complete high school and go on to attend college is very impressive, and we are eager to expand the number of students who can achieve this type of success,” notes Pillsbury Winthrop Partner Robert Herr, who coordinated the firm’s fundraising effort for Aim High.

Pillsbury Winthrop will assist Aim High in achieving more stabilized funding by matching contributions from the firm’s attorneys on a $2-for-$1 basis, up to a maximum firm contribution of $10,000 per year for the next three years. Aim High’s cost for a youth enrolled in its program is $1,200. So, for every $400 of attorney contributions, with the Firm’s $800 matching contribution, one young person’s participation in the program is guaranteed. To date, the firm has collected $7,800 in individual contributions, which means that 14 young people will be able to participate in the program next summer.

Aim High has been in existence for more than 15 years and has helped some 6,000 young people to advance and improve their lives. Aim High seeks to expand the horizons and provide meaningful academic support to youth who otherwise would have few opportunities to do so during the summer months.

For example, the program provides middle school students with a free summer academic enrichment program, with a student/teacher ratio of 8:1, designed to develop the skills, motivation and confidence required to excel in secondary school. Students are also supported by the program during the school year with academic tutoring and mentoring, as well as periodic cultural and recreational outings.
