PORTLAND — Associated Press report that a judge has refused to clear the record of the man who whacked skater Nancy Kerrigan on the knee in 1994, likely ending his hopes to become a Navy SEAL.

Shane Stant, 34, said the Navy’s special warfare unit will not accept anyone with a felony conviction.

But Multnomah County Circuit Judge Julie Frantz told Stant at a Thursday hearing that the law does not allow an assault conviction to be expunged.

Stant served 14 months in prison for the conviction, the product of a conspiracy by Tonya Harding, her ex-husband and two other people when Harding was a contender for the U.S. figure skating title and a spot on the 1994 Winter Olympics team.

The plot was aimed at disabling Kerrigan, Harding’s chief competitor, to clear the way for Harding.
