R Kelly Child Porn Trial Delayed

LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – The R. Kelly child pornography trial, set to begin this month, has been delayed again, a spokesman for Cook County Criminal Court Judge Vincent Gaughan said today.

A new date has not been determined, according to an e-mail from Terry Sullivan, whom Gaughan has appointed to brief the media on the case.

Sullivan said the lead prosecutor, Assistant State’s Atty. Shauna Boliker, who recently gave birth, “is not able to proceed at this time.”

Kelly, 40, was charged with child pornography five years ago for allegedly videotaping sex acts with a girl who prosecutors say was as young as 13. But a series of sometimes bizarre events, including a judge’s tumble from a ladder and Kelly’s appendicitis, have delayed the trial far longer than the norm.
