REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Dec. 22 2004 – LAWFUEL – Best for law news- The Silicon Valley office of international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP has a new managing
partner.
On January 1, 2005, Craig Adas, a corporate Partner who heads the Silicon
Valley office’s Private Equity practice and who has also represented numerous
clients in M&A and capital markets transactions, will assume the position of
Managing Partner, replacing Matthew Powers, who is stepping down after heading
up the Silicon Valley office for 12 years. Powers, named in 2003 by The
American Lawyer as one of the top 45 attorneys under 45 nationwide and by the
San Francisco Daily Journal as one of the top 25 IP lawyers in California,
will devote more time to his litigation practice, serving as the head of the
Firm’s Global Patent Litigation Practice and his duties on the Firm’s
Management Committee.
Weil Gotshal opened its Silicon Valley office in 1991, and Powers took
over shortly thereafter; concerning his stint as Managing Partner, Powers
remarked, “I’ve very much enjoyed helping this office grow from 3 lawyers to
almost 70, and in the process this office has assumed a leadership role in
representing the leading technology companies in the world in their most
significant litigations and transactions. It’s time to help train the next
generation of leaders, and I’m confident Craig will help take the office to
even greater heights.”
Adas, a 1991 graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, takes over
an office of nearly 70 lawyers who regularly serve clients in the computer
hardware and software, semiconductor, communications, media, biotechnology,
medical device and other industries.
