PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – Orin Ray Antone, 34, of Scottsdale, Ariz. and a member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Tribe, was sentenced yesterday to 37 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Mary H. Murguia. Antone pleaded guilty on January 6, 2009 to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
On August 20, 2007, Antone walked by a residence on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation where the 18-year-old victim was drinking with friends. The victim approached Antone, told him he was not welcome in the area and pushed him in the chest area. As Antone and the victim pushed at each other, Antone stabbed the victim in the neck area with a knife like object and then fled the area. The victim, who was unarmed, sustained serious bodily injury and was hospitalized but eventually recovered from his injuries. Antone was later arrested at his residence by Salt River Police Officers. The weapon was never recovered.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Salt River Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Thomas C. Simon, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
