PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – Darius Allan Wellington, 21, of Scottsdale, AZ, a member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Tribe, was sentenced here to 12 months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons by U.S. District Earl H. Carroll. Wellington had pleaded guilty on June 30, 2008 to Escape from a Federal Prison Facility.
On February 13, 2008, Wellington was in the custody of the United States Bureau of Prisons, and was assigned to Behavioral Systems Southwest, located at 2826 E. Roosevelt, Phoenix, Arizona, by virtue of a Judgment and Conviction entered against him on November 29, 2006, in the United States District Court for the felony violation of Involuntary Manslaughter. On February 13, 2008, Wellington escaped from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons and traveled to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation where, on May 9, 2008, he was apprehended.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the United States Marshal’s Office and the Salt River Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Thomas C. Simon, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
