Seasoned commercial litigation trial lawyer Megan Webster joins Mayer Brown in Chicago and New York

Chicago, 22 October 2018– Mayer Brown announced today that Megan S. Webster has joined the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice as a partner. Ms. Webster will be based in the firm’s Chicago office and spend substantial time in the New York office. She joins from BMO Financial Group, where she served as the associate general counsel and head of the US personal and commercial banking litigation team.

“Megan is well-known and highly regarded as a versatile commercial trial litigator and trusted senior business advisor with broad private practice, domestic and international in-house experience,” said Michael Lackey, the leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. “Her arrival enhances ourcapabilities in defending financial institutions and other industry clients in complex litigation and investigation matters, while adding to our expanding regulatory practice for banks, fintech, mortgage companies and other financial institutions.”

For more than a decade, Ms. Webster held various high-level in-house counsel positions at large multinational banking and financial services firms, where she managed some of the most significant litigation, investigations and state and federal exam matters for her clients. Most recently, Ms. Webster led a teamresponsible for the US personal and commercial banking disputes and investigations at BMO Financial Group. Previously, she spent a decade at HSBC, where she held several positions, including senior vice president and associate general counsel.

During her tenure in-house, Ms. Webster managed a diverse docket of consumer and commercial matters across business lines, including class action and individual litigation, federal and state government investigations and enforcement actions, and internal investigations. She also served as lead counsel responsible for domestic antitrust litigation and transactional matters. Ms. Webster began her career in private practice.
