SHANGHAI – March 8, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Jones Day was named International Law Firm of the Year at the 2005 Asian Legal Business China Law Awards held on 4th March 2005 at the Westin Shanghai Hotel in China. The Asian Legal Business China Law Awards are based strictly on nominations from peers and clients. Practitioners were not allowed to nominate themselves or other lawyers within their firm.
The Asian Legal Business China Law Awards’ International Law Firm of the Year Award is given to the firm that has been voted the most highly regarded for both domestic and cross-border transactions by clients and peers in China. The award recognizes work on high profile deals in a number of specialties across the region, as well as brand recognition, a demonstrated commitment to Asia and the firm’s ability to leverage their global network.

Researchers conducted interviews with in-house counsel (local and regional), leading practitioners and business leaders from a wide range of industries, who submitted nomination forms and were interviewed to determine which firms should be nominated in each of the 25 categories. Asian Legal Business also collated relevant independent statistics and brief submissions from the nominated firms, and provided that information to an independent panel of judges. The judges were comprised of senior in-house counsel and business leaders from a cross-section of industries.
Earlier this year Jones Day took the number one position on each of the league tables published by Thomson Financial, based on M&A deals. For the fifth time in a row the firm ranked number one for number of deals completed worldwide, receiving credit for 530 completed deals, outpacing its closest rival by 259 deals.
