Hunter is Shortland Chambers’ go-to commercial silk—ANZ, BNZ, Commerce Commission, Kiwi Property, Metlifecare, Precinct, Rabobank, Vector, Vero, Westpac. His practice spans banking, company law, contract disputes, negligence claims, regulatory matters. One of few silks ranked Band 1 by both Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500, he’s admitted to practice in New Zealand (1998), New York (2003), and England & Wales (2003).
His 10-week High Court trial representing the plaintiff in the Wakatū proceedings (addressing issues remitted by the Supreme Court) showcases capabilities in marathon litigation. Hunter worked at Herbert Smith London and clerked for the late Sir Ivor Richardson at the Court of Appeal.
He teaches public law at Auckland, serves on the NZ Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal, and acts as NZ reporter for the Institute for Transnational Arbitration. No. 16 reflects sustained commercial excellence.
