UK Legal – Lawyers Freshfields Take Top M&A Spot In Bloombergs Survey

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is the top ranked legal adviser on European mergers and acquisitions in Bloomberg’s primary adviser rankings for both 2006 and 2007.

In calendar year 2007 the firm advised on 294 transactions worth US$350.2b according to Bloomberg.

‘This has been a stand out year for the market and for our business,’ said Andreas Fabritius, global corporate practice group leader, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

‘The first half of 2007 was extraordinary in terms of the number and size of transactions. After the credit crunch in August there was still a lot of action in the market and we stayed pretty busy through to the end of the year, although the size of the deals tended to reduce. It will be interesting to see how the market bears up, but we think that there will still be significant activity well into 2008, with the energy, commodities and infrastructure sectors seeing some changes, and corporate entities making strategic acquisitions and divestments.’

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer was also ranked as the number one legal adviser in mergermarket’s preliminary full year tables for 2007 for both the UK (on value) advising on 107 deals worth €253,462m and for Germany (on both value and volume) advising on 106 deals worth €177,556m. This follows the firm being ranked as the number one legal adviser in mergermarket’s pan European year-end league tables for both 2005 and 2006.
