LEV L. DASSIN, the Acting United States Attorney for
the Southern District of New York, JOSEPH R. GUCCIONE, the United
States Marshal for the Southern District of New York, PETER J.
SMITH, the Special Agent-in-Charge of the Department of Homeland
Security’s United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(“ICE”), and MARTIN RENKIEWICZ, the Director of the United States
National Central Bureau of INTERPOL, announced that ADAM
ARASIMOWICZ, 39, a fugitive from a 2001 narcotics conviction in
Poland, was apprehended today in Mahopac, New York, on an
 international extradition warrant.
The arrest was the result of an investigation by ICE
and the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force who,
using information provided by the government of Poland to the
United States Department of State, were able to identify and
apprehend ARASIMOWICZ. According to the Complaint in aid of
extradition unsealed today in Manhattan federal court,
ARASIMOWICZ was convicted in Poland in 2001 and sentenced to six
years’ imprisonment for attempting to bring into Poland more than
one kilogram of cocaine. Instead of reporting to serve his
 sentence, however, ARASIMOWICZ fled Poland.
ARASIMOWICZ, born in Urszulin, Poland, is expected to
be presented today in Manhattan federal court before United
States Magistrate Judge DOUGLAS F. EATON for the court to review
and rule upon the request for extradition.
Mr. DASSIN praised the investigative work of ICE and
the United States Marshals Service, and thanked INTERPOL for its
assistance. Mr. DASSIN also thanked the Department of Justice
 Office of International Affairs.
Assistant United States Attorney JASON A. MASIMORE is
 in charge of the matter.
