US Law News – Morrison Foerster Adds Tax Partner in London

Morrison Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce the addition of Freddie Schwier, who joins the firm as partner in its Tax Group and Transactions Department, based in London. Schwier brings an impressive tax practice to the firm and regularly advises on high-profile, cross-border transactions alongside general tax advisory support to institutional clients.

Schwier will work closely with London, U.S., and global colleagues on tax matters related to transactions, including M&A, private equity, capital markets, restructuring, and finance, alongside general tax advisory mandates. His broad experience encompasses matters across the entire corporate tax landscape, for clients operating in various sectors, including AI, Fintech and Financial Services, Interactive and Digital Media, Life Sciences and Healthcare, and Technology.

“Freddie’s arrival represents a strong strategic addition to the firm and brings valued experience to our London tax practice,” said Richard Nugent, chair of the firm’s global Tax Group. “Our global tax practice is well positioned to support clients on their most significant and critical tax mandates, and Freddie’s broad practice and sector experience will dovetail seamlessly with our platform. We look forward to Freddie joining the firm.”

“Global clients routinely turn to MoFo for tax advice to support their cross-border transactions across M&A, PE, Finance, and the entire dealmaking landscape,” said Andrew Boyd, London co-office managing partner at Morrison Foerster. “Welcoming a tax partner of Freddie’s caliber represents a significant addition to the firm’s transactional tax platform. His valuable cross-practice experience will help our clients in the UK, in the U.S., and internationally across various key industries get their most significant deals over the line.”

Schwier’s arrival represents the sixth partner addition in London in the last 12 months and follows the arrivals of private equity partners Eleanor Shanks (November 2025) and David D’Souza (July 2025), leveraged finance partner Ambarish Dash (July 2025), and Joshua Kaplan and Dan Jones as Fintech and financial services partners (October 2025). Schwier’s arrival also follows that of Richard Nugent, who joined the firm in January 2025 as partner and co-chair of the firm’s global Tax Group.

“I am excited to join Morrison Foerster, a firm with exceptional transactional credentials across Tax, M&A, PE, and Finance,” said Schwier. “I look forward to working with colleagues across MoFo’s global platform, to help grow our tax practice and support clients on complex tax transactions.”

Schwier joins Morrison Foerster from a major U.S.-based international law firm. He holds a B.A. in French and Italian from the University of Oxford, completed his Graduate Diploma in Law and L.P.C. with BPP University Law School, and is qualified to practice in England and Wales. Schwier is fluent in French and Italian.
