Washington, D.C., July 12, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network -Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Douglas N. Greenburg has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the Litigation Department. As an experienced litigator, a former Counsel to the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (also known as the 9-11 Commission), and a former staff attorney in the Division of Enforcement at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Greenburg brings specific expertise in corporate internal investigations and the defense of corporations and their officers and directors, in SEC and other regulatory investigations and in white-collar criminal investigations.

In 2003-04, he served as a Counsel for the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.

While at the 9-11 Commission, Greenburg investigated the financing of al Qaeda and the 9-11 terrorist attacks and the effectiveness of US efforts to identify and disrupt terrorist financing. He contributed to the Commission’s final report and is a co-author of the Commission staff’s Monograph on Terrorist Financing, which has been widely recognized as the leading publicly available study of financing al Qaeda. He also took a lead role in the Commission’s investigation of whether any persons sought to profit through securities trades in advance of the terrorist attacks. He is an expert on terrorist financing, money laundering and related homeland security matters.

“Doug is widely recognized as a rising star in the Washington, D.C. legal community. He will provide added depth to our SEC enforcement, white collar and investigations practices, which are extremely active both in Washington and nationally,” said Eric Bernthal, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Washington, D.C.

Greenburg will augment the firm’s strong SEC enforcement and white collar practices, complementing partners such as William R. Baker III, a former Associate Director of the Division of Enforcement at the SEC.

Everett (Kip) Johnson, Jr., Local Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Litigation Department in the Washington, D.C. office, added: “ Doug has displayed a range of skills that will support the broad range of litigation counsel our firm provides to clients in this age of increased scrutiny. “I am confident that my clients and colleagues at Latham & Watkins will challenge me to bring all my experience to bear on a range of litigation-related matters,” said Greenburg. “I look forward to building on the firm’s successful securities litigation and regulatory practices.”
