Washington, DC, May 24, 2004 – LAWFUEL – Baker & McKenzie announced today that it has further enhanced its Banking, Finance & Major Projects Practice with the addition of Chris Groobey as a Partner in its Washington, D.C. office. Groobey specializes in project finance, structured finance and corporate transactions in the energy industry and has particular knowledge in debt capital markets, power contract monetization and renewable energy transactions. He joins the Firm from Chadbourne & Parke LLP.
At Baker & McKenzie, Groobey will focus his practice on project finance and structured finance transactions and the acquisition, sale and restructuring of assets for clients participating in the energy and infrastructure industries. A project finance lawyer since 1991, he has represented energy and telecommunications companies, investment banks, leading financial institutions and multi-lateral agencies in transactions throughout the United States and in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, China, the Philippines, Kuwait, and Russia. Most recently he has represented sponsors and financial institutions in capital-markets and corporate transactions relating to the purchase, sale and restructuring of power generation assets and the financing of ethanol, landfill gas and other renewable energy projects.

Groobey was previously Counsel at Chadbourne & Parke LLP, which he joined as an associate in 1995. He worked primarily from Chadbourne’s Washington, D.C. office and recently spent a year starting that firm’s Houston office. From 1991 to 1995, he practiced project finance and aircraft finance law with Perkins Coie in Washington, D.C.
Groobey graduated from the University of Chicago Law School and Hampshire College. He is admitted to practice in California, New York, Texas and Washington, D.C.
