WASHINGTON, October 11, 2004 LAWFUEL – Law, law firm, attorney, legal news–Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced today that Garret Rasmussen has joined Orrick as an antitrust and litigation partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. Previously, Rasmussen was a partner at Patton Boggs LLP, where he led that firm’s antitrust practice.

“Garret is well-known and highly respected throughout the national antitrust and consumer protection bars,” said Ralph Baxter, Orrick’s chairman and CEO. “He brings a breadth and depth of experience to our antitrust group that advances an important firm-wide objective—namely, to aggressively grow our litigation and antitrust presence on the East Coast.”

“Garret’s proven leadership abilities and entrepreneurial drive are invaluable assets as we continue expanding our antitrust and consumer protection litigation and corporate counseling capacity,” said Ray Mullady, who heads the firm’s Washington, D.C., litigation group. “His remarkable record of success as a first-chair, complex trial lawyer will add depth to our D.C. litigation team, as well.”

“Orrick is a world-class firm with a clearly articulated strategy for growing its litigation and antitrust practices,” said Rasmussen. “I look forward to contributing to that growth and to utilizing the firm’s vast resources—its global reach as well as its full panoply of legal services—to the greatest benefit for my clients.”

Rasmussen is the second high-profile litigator in two weeks—and the second Patton Boggs partner in a year—to join Orrick’s Washington, D.C., office, which has been aggressively growing its litigation practice. Earlier this month, the firm announced the arrival of partner James Meyers, who previously had been Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Partner Lanny Davis, who served as White House Special Counsel to President Clinton, joined the firm’s D.C. office from Patton Boggs in October of last year.
