Akkad Was Killed in a 2005 Suicide Bombing at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman, Jordan
LAWFUEL – WHAT: Mrs. Sooha Akkad, widow of Hollywood director-producer Moustapha Akkad, will hold a press conference on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the law offices of Greene Broillet & Wheeler, LLP, 100 Wilshire Boulevard, 21st Floor, Santa Monica, CA. to announce the filing of a wrongful death lawsuit against the Global Hyatt Corporation and Hyatt International Corporation. Moustapha Akkad was killed on November 9, 2005 in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman, Jordan. Mrs. Akkad alleges in the complaint that security at the Grand Hyatt was wholly inadequate to protect its guests and that metal detectors located at the entrance to the hotel had been removed by the hotel prior to the attack.
WHO: On November 9, 2005, Moustapha Akkad, who lived in Los Angeles, was in Jordan with his wife Sooha Akkad and their daughter Rimma Akkad, and was staying at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman. They were in the lobby of the hotel when a suicide bomber detonated explosives which had been strapped to his body. Akkad died two days later from his injuries, Rimma was killed instantly and Sooha survived the attack but was seriously injured.
On that same day, at approximately the same time, suicide bombers also detonated explosives at the Radisson and Days Inn hotels in Amman. In an Internet statement released after the bombings, Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the attacks which resulted in the deaths of 62 people and hundreds of injuries.
The complaint was filed September 10, 2007 in the Circuit Court of Cook County, IL. which is the global headquarters of the Global Hyatt Corporation.
