“Wills on Wheels” Aids 24 Elderly
Kilpatrick Stockton LLP announces another successful “Wills on Wheels” project. Through the program, Kilpatrick Stockton employees prepared and executed over 90 documents for 24 elderly, low-income individuals. Participants included 14 attorneys and 11 staff members from the Charlotte and Winston-Salem offices of Kilpatrick Stockton.
“Since the program’s inception over four years ago, we have served almost 200 individuals through the “Wills on Wheels” program,” said Debbie Segal, Kilpatrick Stockton’s Pro Bono Partner. “The continued success of this program is a direct result of the leadership of Shannon Elliotte, an associate in the Winston-Salem office, and the wonderful contributions of our lawyers and staff who give their personal time to help the community.”
The seniors that participate in the program are pre-screened by Legal Services for the Elderly and Legal Aid of North Carolina. Documents developed included: wills, financial powers of attorney, healthcare powers of attorney and living wills. The event was held last weekend at the Legal Aid of North Carolina office in Charlotte.
In 2004, Kilpatrick Stockton provided 26,000 hours of pro bono representation to low income individuals and nonprofit organizations, a value of almost $7 million.
