LAWFUEL – Clifford Chance advises on BNP Paribas financing for KAL aircraft
Bangkok: Leading global law firm Clifford Chance has advised BNP Paribas on the US$300 million financing of two Boeing B777-200ER aircraft for Korean Air Lines.
Partner Fergus Evans led the Clifford Chance team advising BNP Paribas, assisted by associate Tanai Porasupattana in Bangkok, and Alan Christenfeld from the firm’s New York office, who advised on New York law aspects of the transaction.
“This latest deal demonstrates our continuing involvement in high-profile aircraft finance projects in Asia, both in terms of commercial lending transactions and Japanese operating lease transactions handled from our Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo offices,” said Fergus. “We also act for a number of operating lessors across the region.”
This transaction completes a successful year for the firm’s Asian aircraft finance practice, having advised, inter alia, on financings for Cathay Pacific, Tiger, Oasis and Thai Airways and Japanese operating leases into British Airways, China Southern, Ryanair, SAS and Turkish Airlines. The team also completed operating lessor work into Air Europa, Frontier, Japan Airlines, Skymark and Brazil’s TAM Linhas Aéreas.
