Baker & McKenzie today announced an endowment to establish an annual International Law Lecture Series at Georgetown University Law Center.

The fund’s inaugural speaking event on April 19, 2004 will discuss Applying the United States’ Securities Regulations Abroad, featuring Public Company Accounting Oversight Board member and former Baker & McKenzie Partner Daniel Goelzer, and Professor Donald Langevoort of the Georgetown University Law Center.

“We are delighted to support an exchange of ideas on topics of international law and policy, together with one of the most esteemed legal learning communities in the world. Georgetown University Law was a natural partner for us in this endeavor, as it has clearly and continuously distinguished itself as a leader in the area of international law- from the accomplishments of its alumni to its strong international law curriculum,” said Christine Lagarde, Chairman of Baker & McKenzie’s Executive Committee.

“The Law Center is honored to be the recipient of this wonderful gift from one of the world’s leading global law firms. It is especially meaningful for us because of our long and close relationship with Baker & McKenzie. This lecture series will be an important addition to our growing international and comparative law programs,” said Judith Areen, Dean of Georgetown University Law Center.

Georgetown Law Center is one of the nation’s premier law schools. It is also a world leader in the area of international law. More information on the Law Center can be found at: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/about.html.
