As the world’s highest-grossing law firm, Kirkland & Ellis is used to pushing the limits and has done so again making 141 partners in the largest partner-promotion in a big law firm.
The firm promoted 122 partners last year and interestingly it works to fast-track associates to partnership in contrast to many firms that increasingly restrict partnership access.
The firm has also been particularly active in London, taking marquee lawyers like David Higgins from Freshfields and more recently Adrian Maguire from the same firm.
With 2500 lawyers Kirkland & Ellis has plenty of salaried partners, the pool from which the equity partners are selected to share in the firm’s bumper profits. Last year the firm had turnover of $3.76 billion, the highest of any firm anywhere. As previously reported, the firm also generates a high PEP.
The firm’s 300-lawyer London office saw 16 new partners, with the office now generating almost $400m and its current level of promotions dwarf comparable rates at top London firms.
