Clifford Chance Forges Indonesian Link-Up

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has announced it has entered into an association with Indonesian firm, Linda Widyati & Partners (LWP). The move supports the firm’s commitment to delivering top quality service to clients in key markets and forms part of our ambitious growth strategy for Asia Pacific.

Clifford Chance has been advising clients on Indonesian matters for over 30 years from the firm’s hubs in Singapore and Hong Kong. The association with LWP will further enhance its offering allowing the two firms to work together to provide clients with integrated advice on Indonesian and international law.

LWP is a boutique law firm established by Linda Widyati (pictured) and Dezi Kirana, who are leading Indonesian lawyers, each with over 20 years of experience in Corporate M&A transactions, Banking and Finance, and Capital Markets.

Clifford Chance’s Managing Partner for Asia Pacific, Peter Charlton said, “Indonesia is a strong and vibrant economy and represents an important jurisdiction for many of our clients, including in sectors such as energy and resources, financial institutions, insurance, consumer goods and retail, and telecoms. The establishment of this association signals our commitment to provide our clients with world-class legal advice to meet their evolving needs in this dynamic market. LWP share our values and our commitment to the highest standards of legal advice and client service.”

The associated firms will continue to focus on the core areas of Corporate M&A, Banking & Finance and Capital Markets, where we have a strong track-record in working on some of the most innovative and complex cross-border deals in this market. Additionally, we will provide guidance on contentious matters and act for clients in arbitrations in Indonesia and in the region.

Clifford Chance’s Head of M&A in Amsterdam, Jeroen Koster, recently relocated to Asia Pacific, from where he will lead the association on the Clifford Chance side. Jeroen’s extensive background in Corporate and M&A work and proven track-record of working on successful Asia Pacific mandates provides additional senior partner resource as Clifford Chance grows its already strong Corporate practice across this exciting region.

Jeroen Koster adds, “Clifford Chance is strongly committed to Indonesia. The association with LWP will provide significant benefits to our clients. However, we also take our broader responsibilities seriously. Through the pro bono legal and volunteering work of our people, through donations from the Firm’s charitable Foundation and through the investment of lawyer time in legal education initiatives in Indonesia, we believe we can make a meaningful contribution to the legal sector and wider community in Indonesia.”

Linda Widyati said, “We are thrilled to be joining forces with Clifford Chance which has one of the best recognised and longest standing international Indonesia practices. We share the same vision for excellence in client service and our combined knowledge and skills will allow us to advise clients on the most complex, and increasingly international, deals.  Clifford Chance is clearly making a strong commitment to Indonesia and the legal and wider community. The association provides a fantastic opportunity for our lawyers who will have access to Clifford Chance’s world class training, know-how, sector expertise and resources as well as providing them with international work and career opportunities.”

The launch of the association with LWP follows several other initiatives across Asia Pacific to grow Clifford Chance’s practice in the region through investment in alliances and talent as well as new offices and practices. These moves include the firm’s Formal Law Alliance with boutique litigation practice Cavenagh Law in Singapore; the opening of the firm’s Seoul office; and the launch of an Australian practice in Sydney and Perth in 2011.

These moves are part of Clifford Chance’s broader commitment to support clients in key markets. Earlier this month, the firm also announced the formal establishment of the first joint Saudi and international lawyer partnership in Saudi Arabia, led by a five partner team and with a total of almost 50 staff.
