Elite Litigators Join NZ Law Power List

Elite Barristers Powerlist

Although senior KCs and other barristers continue to exert their influence within the legal profession a younger group of litigators are already playing a key role in major litigation.

Although commercial lawyers like Jack Hodder KC and Davey Salmon KC are have occupied significant places on the List, the new additions include effective litigators who have made their mark as professionals operating at the highest levels of civil litigation work.

Among the new barristers are:

Stephen Hunter KC –

With over 20 years of litigation experience, Stephen Hunter KC has an impressive academic record which includes an LLM from Harvard University, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar but his career includes his years as a litigation partner at Gilbert Walker in Auckland, although he has been admitted to the bar in the UK and the United States.

He has also played an important role in legal education as a faculty member of the NZLS CLE Ltd Litigation Skills Programme and has lectured in public law at the University of Auckland.

He is also one of the select few silks listed in Band 1 by both Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500 with his work focused on major commercial disputes and public law issues, including representing major banks, infrastructure companies and others.

Will Tipping –

Mayne Wetherell partner Will Tipping has established himself as one of the major finance lawyers in New Zealand.  Displaying exceptional expertise in banking, finance, and restructuring he has become an indispensable professional when it comes to major financial deals.

His work has involved some of the largest finance and funding deals, including major restructuring work, creating an impressive portfolio of commercial work that has elevated his role as one of the country’s top commercial lawyers and a major introduction to the LawFuel Power List.

Nick Flanagan –

Nickflanagan Lawfuel

Meredith Connell partner Nick Flanagan has prosecuted for the Crown as part of the Meredith Connell team, but he has also established himself as a major civil litigation lawyer able to effectively argue complex commercial and civil claims.

He is a foremost expert in terms of his experience arguing cases under both the Fair Trading Act and the Financial Markets Conduct Authority Act, achieving considerable success for a range of private and public sector clients.

One of his major successes was his win representing the Ministry of Education in its successful claims against James Hardie and Carter Holt Harvey for faulty building products, one of the largest civil claims ever in New Zealand.
