New Zealand Super Fund General Counsel Craig Douglas

Former Buddle Findlay and Russell McVeagh solicitor Craig Douglas took over the lead legal role at the New Zealand Super Fund in October 2022 after working for the major fund for almost 12 years.

The New Zealand Superannuation Fund has around $57 billion under investment, with investments in listed equities, private entities, timber, real estate, infrastructure, financial services and healthcare, using many different types of investment structures. It also runs a separate venture capital fund and handles a wide range of national and international interests, making the job both interesting and challenging.

The team of nine at the Fund are also involved in other corporate activities, ensuring there is ongoing support with strategy, compliance, regulatory and other issues, apart from everyday legal issues involving a fund as large as the NZ Super Fund.
