Kilpatrick Stockton LLP today announced that
Mark I. Levy has joined the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office, where he will specialize
in U.S. Supreme Court and appellate litigation. With 30 years of relevant
experience, Mr. Levy will play a substantial role in developing and expanding
Kilpatrick Stockton’s Supreme Court and appellate litigation practice.
“Mark’s extensive background, including participation in dozens of Supreme Court
cases, helps round out our existing appellate litigation practice, and is one step
in our strategic plan for development and expansion in this area,” said Bill
Brewster, Managing Partner for Kilpatrick Stockton.
A graduate of Yale Law School, Mr. Levy served for five years in the Office of the
Solicitor General. He was also Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil
Division of the Department of Justice.
“Last year, we organized our appellate work nationwide into a discrete specialty
practice,” added Steve Clay, Chairman of the Kilpatrick Stockton Litigation Section.
“The addition of Mark Levy continues the growth and expansion of that group. Adam
Charnes, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Policy
at the U.S. Department of Justice and a former law clerk to Justice Kennedy, joined
our practice last September, and other additions are expected. We were involved in
75 to 100 appeals around the country last year, and expect the practice to expand in
2004.”
Mr. Levy has argued 15 cases in the United States Supreme Court and has been
involved in over 100 cases on the merits in the Court. In addition, he has argued
numerous cases in the federal courts of appeals and has participated in the briefing
of cases in every federal circuit and a number of state appellate courts. His cases
have spanned virtually every substantive area of law, and have involved the
preparation of merits briefs, amicus curiae briefs, petitions for and opposition to
writs of certiorari, and advice to other counsel on Supreme Court and appellate
strategy and procedures.
Mr. Levy is a frequent commentator and author on the Supreme Court and appellate
litigation. He has spoken on programs before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the
Washington Legal Foundation, the American Corporate Counsel Association, the
American Bar Association, and at various law school seminars and trade association
conferences. He is often quoted in the media about the Court. He also is a member
of the Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure and the
American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and is a Master in the Edward Coke American
Appellate Inn of Court.
