Kilpatrick Stockton LLP today announced the addition of Jerry Smith as a partner in the firm’s Atlanta office. Mr. Smith joins the Corporate Practice Group, where he will focus his practice on tax matters. Mr. Smith has extensive experience in international, federal, state and local taxation of corporations and partnerships. His experience includes transaction planning related to mergers and acquisitions and tax controversy matters.

Mr. Smith brings over 20 years of tax experience including 10 years of multi-state corporate tax experience to Kilpatrick Stockton. This experience includes multi-state tax planning and tax controversy experience with domestic and foreign public and private companies.

“Jerry’s impressive background and experience make him a particularly valuable asset to the firm’s growing tax practice,” said David Stockton, who heads Kilpatrick Stockton’s Corporate Practice Group. “We expect Jerry will play an integral role in the development and expansion of our corporate tax practice.”

Prior to joining Kilpatrick Stockton, Mr. Smith spent 8 years as a tax partner in KPMG’s Atlanta office. Prior to 1996, Mr. Smith spent 13 years in the Charlotte office of KPMG. Mr. Smith is a 1985 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was an Associate Editor on the law review. He received an accounting degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979. He is a CPA and member of the North Carolina Bar.
