Lawyer in Fishnets and G-String Escapes Sex Conviction

Now we get some strange lawyer stories but this?  A former legal high flyer charged with getting into bed with a woman he thought was a Panda bear?  Dressed in fishnets and a g-string?

Strange, but also strangely true.

Desmond Moran, from Tipperary in Ireland had taken drugs and we know what can happen when you do that, don’t we?

In Desmond’s case, at the Southwark Crown Court, a jury found the lawyer not guilty.  They swallowed the story on how he had been seen by a woman standing in her doorway dressed in a purple G-string and wearing stockings.  He was high on meth.

The Independent reports that she screamed, as you might:

“I said: ‘Who are you, what are you doing? What are you doing in my apartment?”

“That’s when I started getting quite anxious and I started screaming at him, and the children woke up.”

The woman said that she was shouting at Mr Moran but he didn’t respond. When she see looked closely at him, she realised he wasn’t wearing trousers or a jacket.

“It was costume, and when he went to the window and turned around I could see his bottom – I think he had a G-string on.’

Fearful for her children’s safety, the woman said she slammed Mr Moran into a door several times and tried to forced him out of the room. When he left, she ran off to her nanny’s room with her children and called the police.

When the police arrived, they found Mr Moran in the basement of the block of flat. He was still in his fishnet stockings and G-string when police arrived but was so agitated it took three officers to put him in handcuffs.

Mr Moran had fallen on hard times.  Having worked in Singapore, Hong Kong and New York he had found himself living in hostels and had gone to the block of apartments to find himself a bed for the night.

What he found instead was a jury trial, a very odd set of facts and – ultimately – a not guilty verdict.  In fact it took the jury just 30 minutes to reach its verdict on a charge of trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence.

He sobbed when it was delivered.
