Legal Jobs – Lawyers on Holiday – Allen & Overy’s Approach

LawJobsPipeline.com – Legal work takes its toll in many ways, not the least being the demands of work – be they a deal or a trial. What if you could convert outstanding holidays into pay, rather than lose them altogether?

Sounds logical, and it’s what Allen & Overy happen to do. A&O have adopted a number of flexible working scheme arrangements and the ability to buy and sell holidays is one of them. The firm brought the changes into play to overcome age discrimination requirements.

Lawyers and staff have the option of selling a proportion of their vacation time back to the firm as well as being able to buy extra days. Workers are allowed to trade vacation time worth a limited proportion of their salary. It means a mid-ranking trainee, who has 25 days of annual leave, would be able to sell back or buy up to five days.
