Lobster Thief Captured At Sydney Airport

(LAWFUEL) – The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have charged two men after a joint AFP and Qantas investigation involving the theft of Qantas catering supplied to Sydney Airport.

A 46-year-old Campsie man will appear in Waverley Local Court today charged with larceny and receiving goods as a result of allegedly receiving stolen food items while a 28-year-old Bexley man will face court on 29 November charged with stealing property.

Qantas investigators alerted the AFP in October 2008 after the disappearance of catering supplies which had been delivered by a locally run supplier to the Qantas storage facility.

The AFP stopped the Bexley man as he departed the Qantas catering facility on2 November and searched his truck. The AFP seized 71 lobster tails, 60kg white shrimp, 30kg Cadbury chocolate, 30kg scallops, 20kg Basmati rice, 10kg tiger prawns and 8kg Toblerone.

The estimated total value of the seized items was more than $7000.
The 46-year-old Campsie man was charged under the NSW Crimes Act 1900
with one count of larceny and one count of receiving property as a clerk. The 28-year-old Bexley man was charged under the NSW Crimes Act 1900 with two counts of stealing property.

The maximum penalty for receiving stolen property as a clerk is 12 years
imprisonment; for stealing property is 10 years imprisonment and for larceny is five years imprisonment. The maximum fine for all these offences is $15,000.
