Mayer Brown strengthens insurance industry transactional capabilities

New York, 3 March 2016 – Mayer Brown announced today that Frank Monaco has joined the firm as a partner in its global Corporate & Securities practice and Insurance Industry Group in New York.

“Frank is highly regarded for providing legal counsel on sophisticated corporate transactions in the insurance industry, particularly in the areas of insurance and reinsurance M&A, insurance regulation, life reserve financing and mortgage insurance,” said Stephen Rooney, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Insurance Industry Group. “His arrival adds depth to the firm’s existing insurance corporate and regulatory transactional capabilities and will further strengthen our ability to serve our clients in the US and abroad.”

Mr. Monaco represents insurance and reinsurance companies, investment banks, financial buyers and rating agencies on a broad range of transactions, including:

  • Insurance/reinsurance M&A – representing insurers, reinsurers, and financial buyers in the purchase and sale of insurance and reinsurance companies and blocks of insurance and reinsurance business, including representing buyers and sellers in auctions and in run-off contexts;
  • Insurance regulatory – advising on insurance regulatory matters, including the insurance holding company act, the formation and licensing of insurance companies and reinsurance companies, redomestications, insurance “doing business law” issues, acquisition of control filings, affiliate transaction filings, and the insurance law aspects of the Dodd-Frank Act;
  • Reserve financing and insurance-linked securities – representing life insurance companies and capital providers in “XXX” and “AXXX” reserve financing transactions, including the work-out or restructuring of such transactions; and
  • Monoline practice – advising mortgage guaranty insurers, financial guaranty insurers, and professional reinsurers of financial guaranty insurance risks, including with respect to insurance regulatory matters, reinsurance transactions, public company disclosure, formation, licensing and policy drafting.

Previously, Mr. Monaco was a partner with Hogan Lovells in New York. Before that, he spent 15 years, including five years as a partner, in the corporate insurance group at Dewey & LeBoeuf and its predecessor LeBoeuf Lamb.
