New Counsel Brings Additional White Collar
and Government Experience as Firm Continues to Grow
New York, NY – July 22, 2003 – The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP announced today that white collar and civil litigator Pamela J. Marple, 39, has joined the Firm as counsel, resident in Washington, DC. Ms. Marple comes to Chadbourne from Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP.

Ms. Marple brings further depth to the Firm’s white collar criminal defense practice group, whose members include partner Abbe David Lowell, former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney at the Department of Justice and now a defense attorney in criminal and Congressional matters; partner Kenneth A. Caruso, former Deputy Associate Attorney General; partner Thomas V. Sjoblom, former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for three judicial districts; counsel John G. Moon, former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, Fraud Section; and counsel Clifford C. Hyatt, former Deputy Assistant Regional Director of the SEC’s Pacific Regional Office.
Ms. Marple’s practice focuses on all aspects of civil litigation as well as representing clients in white collar criminal litigation and in congressional and executive branch investigations. While in private practice, Ms. Marple has represented and continues to represent a number of clients involved in grand jury, congressional and executive branch investigations, as well as complex civil litigation matters.
Prior to entering private practice in 1999, Ms. Marple served in the U.S. government for eight years, holding a number of positions that involved litigating and investigating high profile issues. In the U.S. Senate, Ms. Marple served first as Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, responsible for a number of the committee’s legislative proposals and policies as well as government oversight inquiries.
She then served as Deputy Chief Counsel for the Special Committee investigating the 1996 presidential campaign finance activities, which involved managing investigative teams and strategy during this widely reported controversy; questioning witnesses, including former National Security Advisory Sandy Berger and others, during public and closed hearings; and working closely with all members and their staff. During that investigation, Ms. Marple was also responsible for the minority’s investigation based on classified information and for handling press inquires concerning that and other topics.
Finally, Ms. Marple served as Chief Counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which possesses the largest jurisdictional mandate in the Senate. In that position, she was responsible for managing a variety of investigations conducted by the committee.
Prior to her work in the Senate, Ms. Marple was a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice for five years, litigating constitutional and other government-related cases in federal court. She was lead trial counsel in defending the Brady Handgun Violence Control Act (the Brady Bill) against Tenth Amendment challenges, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act against First Amendment challenges, and numerous other statutory and regulatory actions.
Ms. Marple received her B.A. from the University of Virginia and her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she was articles editor for the law review. Prior to law school, Ms. Marple worked as a social worker for Big Brothers of the National Capitol area and as a legislative assistant for the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.
