New York, May 17, 2007 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Wire – Dewey Ballantine LLP, a leading international law firm, announced today that Hugh T. Scogin, Jr. has joined the firm’s Corporate Department resident in the Beijing office. Scogin, formerly a partner in the China practice group of Coudert Brothers, has more than 20 years of experience advising clients on investments and transactions in China and has taught Chinese law at Yale Law School and NYU School of Law. He joins Dewey Ballantine from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was a partner in its China office.

At Dewey Ballantine, Scogin will advise clients on China-related matters involving corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, direct investment, company law, business operations, international trade, intellectual property, and arbitration.

During the last 18 months, Dewey Ballantine’s corporate finance practice has participated in the rapidly expanding capital markets arena in China. The firm recently represented UBS AG, CIBC World Markets Corp. and Pacific Growth Equities, LLC in the U.S. initial public offering of 3SBio Inc. 3SBio Inc.’s operating subsidiary, Shenyang Sunshine Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., is a leading biotechnology company in China. Scogin is a Harvard Law School graduate. He trained as an associate at Donovan Leisure and Paul Weiss in New York and Beijing. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, with a reading ability in Japanese and German. He is recognized as a leading U.S. academic authority on Chinese law, has taught Chinese law and international business law and has published widely in those fields. He is admitted in New York and is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in Hong Kong.
