Scogin, Jr. has joined the firm’s Corporate Department resident in the Beijing office. Scogin, formerly a partner in the China practice group of Coudert Brothers, has more than 20 years of experience advising clients on investments and transactions in China and has taught Chinese law at Yale Law School and NYU School of Law. He joins Dewey Ballantine from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was a partner in its China office.

At Dewey Ballantine, Scogin will advise clients on China-related matters involving corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, direct investment, company law, business operations, international trade, intellectual property, and arbitration.

Scogin is a Harvard Law School graduate. He trained as an associate at Donovan Leisure and Paul Weiss in New York and Beijing. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, with a reading ability in Japanese and German. He is recognized as a leading U.S. academic authority on Chinese law, has taught Chinese law and international business law and has published widely in those fields. He is admitted in New York and is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in Hong Kong.
