Reed Smith Strengthens State Tax Group in New York

Leading Tax Attorney Gregory Roberts Joins Nationally Renowned State Tax Team

NEW YORK (January 5, 2017) – Reed Smith LLP today announced the addition of Gregory Roberts as a partner in the firm’s State Tax Group in New York. Roberts was most recently a partner at Morrison & Foerster. Reed Smith’s New York office has added 37 lawyers – including partners Richard Tannenbaum, Lisa Chiarini, Jared Hershberg, Jess Drabkin, Jennifer Cheng and Jodi Schwimmer – in the past year.

“Gregg is a highly impressive tax controversy lawyer, and has proven himself to be an advisor who can deliver outstanding results for world-class clients,” said Lee Zoeller, chair of Reed Smith’s State Tax practice. “With the largest number of dedicated state tax lawyers in any law firm, our team serves clients across all taxing jurisdictions. Many of us in Reed Smith’s state tax team have come to know and respect Gregg, so we are thrilled to welcome him to our group.”

Roberts’ practice focuses on the resolution of state and local tax controversies throughout the country.  He has extensive experience in matters involving corporate income, utility taxes, property taxes and franchise taxes, and he regularly advises multistate and multinational clients on the state and local tax implications of corporate transactions and reorganizations. In addition to his corporate tax knowledge, Roberts brings vast experience with personal income tax, and sales and use tax matters.

Commenting on Roberts’ arrival at the firm, Cindy Minniti, Reed Smith’s New York Office Managing Partner, said, “Gregg brings an incredible depth of experience across a wide scope of tax issues. I’m proud to kick off the new year with such a strong addition to our office. With Gregg’s arrival and several recent additions here, New York has grown to be Reed Smith’s largest office in the United States, with attorneys working with clients in all of our key industry sectors – financial, life sciences, entertainment, media, shipping and energy industries.”
Roberts earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the American University, Washington College of Law, where he also served as Senior Note and Comment Editor on the American University Law Review; and his B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Rochester. Prior to Morrison & Foerster, Roberts practiced at Dechert.
