The Corporate Group at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP have advised Rhodia on the sale of their global polyurethane flame retardants business to Albemarle Corporation. The transaction completed on 23rd July 2003.

Rhodia’s polyurethane flame retardants business generated sales over 60 million euros in 2002.

As part of the transaction, Albemarle will acquire Rhodia’s production site in Avonmouth in the United Kingdom. Rhodia will also supply Albemarle with ‘Antiblaze’ TM flame retardants and intermediates manufactured in its plants in Charleston (S.C, USA), Oldbury and Widnes (UK).

Rhodia is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of specialty chemicals and is listed on the Paris and New York stock exchanges.
